We Are Family Day

Since 2008, the Department of Children, Youth, and Families and the Seattle Mariners have hosted We Are Family, an annual celebration of foster parents, kinship caregivers and permanent families. It is a day to share gratitude and to celebrate the many ways that caregivers make a difference in the lives of children, youth, families, and communities.

The Seattle Mariners provide discounted tickets, venue space, and a first pitch experience for a young person experiencing foster care and a giveaway to everyone with an event ticket. The child welfare community brings another layer of celebration to the event. They share games, gifts, resources, and opportunities relevant to foster caregivers. Over the years, DCYF staff from different divisions and regions have attended and volunteered their time making We Are Family one of the largest state-sponsored foster caregiver events in the United States.
