The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) Board of Appeals reviews decisions issued by administrative law judges at the Office of Administrative Hearings. Review is performed for cases from various departmental programs and is conducted at the request of either the Department or the party who originally requested the hearing. Cases proceed pursuant to Chapter 34.05 RCW and Chapter 110-03 WAC.
The Board of Appeals review judges are attorneys who review hearing decisions for legal and factual errors on behalf of the Secretary of DCYF. The review judges report and act independently from other departmental programs.
The Board of Appeals performs the following:
- Maintains the Department’s official record for each adjudication
- Receives petitions for review
- Files hearing records with superior courts
