Foster Youth Get Pampered and Fresh Haircuts for New School Year

December 23, 2024

This past September, Sensa Salon partnered with the Alliance to offer free haircuts and gift bags to foster youth.

The salon closed to the public, so staff were able to focus on the 25 youth and young adults that attended the event as well as their caregivers.

“The haircuts and styles were gorgeous and high caliber, but the best part was witnessing the joy and smiles the experience brought to the faces of the youth,” said former Alliance Cares Community Engagement Coordinator Kati Brown.

The salon gave every “client” a goodie bag with product, a brush, and a Visa gift card. The caregivers and youth shared how excited they were to go shopping for school supplies/clothes and to make the selection themselves.

After the event, Kati received two messages from a youth in EFC and a relative caregiver.

“I wanted to send you a quick email and let you know what an awesome experience I had yesterday. I got my haircut done by the owner and she was the sweetest person I have ever met,” shared a foster youth.

“I am the grandmother of a youth who attended the Sensa salon event, and he received a wonderful new haircut. I appreciate you all greatly and his hair looks awesome,” said a caregiver.

Kati hopes that the Alliance will continue to work with Sensa and other salons to facilitate this experience for even more children and youth in care.
