Training: Addressing Eating Disorders

When children transition into a foster home, there are many behaviors that can carry over from their prior circumstances. For caregivers, recognition and treatment of these behaviors is a critical part of supporting the children in their development. Food hoarding, is specifically common with foster children who have been significantly neglected and experienced inconsistency with having basic needs met. The upcoming Alliance training “Eating Disorders and Beyond” addresses how caregivers can recognize disordered eating and support recovery from it.

Led by Meaghan Ormsby, a registered dietitian with 15 years’ experience treating disordered eating, the six-hour topic training focuses on an overview of eating disorders, intervention and support. Participants will learn how to identify symptoms of disorders, when and how to seek professional help, feeding practices to encourage a positive eating environment for all ages and reasons that hoarding occurs and how to respond to it. This training is essential for all caregivers of neglected children.
