Adoption

Adoption means:
"To take by choice into a relationship"

Webster’s Dictionary

Every child deserves a permanent, stable, and loving family. In 2021 there were 1009 adoptions of children in the custody of Washington State’s child welfare system, with more children still awaiting adoptive homes.

The purpose of the adoption program is to meet the permanency needs of children who are in the care and custody of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). DCYF strives to find safe and stable families that can best meet the needs of the child or youth who are in the foster care system.

In order for a family to adopt a Washington state foster child, they must become fully licensed as a foster parent with the intent of adopting.
