Advancing Racial Equity

Have you heard about DCYF’s Adolescent Programs division? It’s the agency’s first effort to align client-serving programs into one integrated team. Adolescent Programs focuses on the developmental stage of adolescents and creates programs and strategies to help DCYF provide services more efficiently.

One of our agency’s core values is transparency, and there are many ways that we try to live out that value in our work. We think it’s important to share publicly our goals and how we are making progress on them, and to that end, we have launched an agency performance dashboard on our website.

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families has big goals. We want to make life better for all families, not just those we serve. We want to take a new approach to contracting that will support providers throughout the state to make an even bigger impact for families and communities.

By building a new agency, DCYF is preparing to integrate and align early learning, child welfare, and juvenile rehabilitation services in Washington. Before we can effectively improve programs and services for children, youth and families, we need to first set goals by which we can measure our effectiveness.

On Aug. 1, 2017 I officially stepped into my new role as Secretary of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. I can’t fully describe how excited, nervous, and hopeful I am about taking on this work.
