Foster Care Housing Program (FCHP)

The Foster Care Housing Program helps with access to:

  • Housing vouchers
  • Temporary rental assistance
  • Housing navigation
  • Case management

Who is this program for?

  • Young people ages 18 through 24 who have left foster care or plan to leave foster care and extended foster care within 180 days of signing a lease.
  • Young people must have been in foster care after their 16th birthday.

Referrals

Referrals may be made by the young person or any adult helping them transition from foster care.

Program Goals

The FCHP goal is to create successful transitions into adulthood by making sure that young people have stable housing as they leave foster care.

Services are provided by community-based organizations contracted with DCYF. These services are provided along with federal housing vouchers from local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) as part of the Foster Youth to Independence Program (FYI).
