Last year, Washington was one of five states to receive a $7.7 million permanency grant, known as Permanency From Day One (PFD1).
On February 19, Secretary Hunter spoke at the Washington State Association of Head Start & ECEAP (Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program) Winter Meeting in Olympia. Before she even hits the road, Briana Glover, a caseworker out of the DCYF Everett office, always ensures she has a car seat properly installed in her backseat. It doesn’t matter the brand or model, Glover is well trained to identify the correct car seat size for the child’s age and weight and how to properly fasten the child.

Echo Glen’s Canine Connections program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this month. Since 1990, Echo Glen has taken in service dogs and pound puppies for youth to train and prepare for adoption.
Friends of the Children is a national program in which professional mentors commit to friendship with a child for 12.5 years, no matter what. Every year, local Friends of the Children chapters reach out to DCYF caseworkers for help identifying youth who could truly benefit from the program.
