Parole Aftercare Supports Youth’s Community Reentry

As part of our Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) continuum of care, the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) aims to provide comprehensive and community-based services to support eligible youth as they transition back into their communities. Young people start their residential sentences with JR in an institution.

Dad Overcomes Obstacles, Children Returned to His Care

Despite a criminal history and prior CPS cases, one father worked hard to overcome great odds to have his children returned to his care. 

Domico has a very long history with DCYF. He has had many children in care and has even lost custody of some of them. He also has a long criminal history and was in prison when his two youngest came back into care.

2020 Tax Season and Information for Caregivers

Foster parents and kinship caregivers may claim a tax deduction on certain foster care payments for children who have been placed in their care for more than half of the tax year. Exceptions apply for a foster child who was born within the tax year; caregivers will need to check with their tax advisor in these situations.

With the ongoing restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, youth in DCYF’s Juvenile Rehabilitation community facilities have been quietly plugging away at their education, earning their degrees, participating in community service, and doing as much as they can to stay active.
