Juvenile Rehabilitation and Evergreen State College celebrated 29 years of partnership that has resulted in an estimated 500 young people obtaining college prep courses.
In recent years, between 10-20 young people participated in Evergreen’s Gateways program every year and most have improved grades, attendance, and overall social and academic skills in preparation for college-level learning.
“This year Gateways celebrates 29 years of transformative education and partnership,” said Haley Lowe, Director of Education for Juvenile Rehabilitation. “This program provides young people with tools for success and access to opportunities to learn.”
Through this program, Green Hill School provides educational support to young people who need it. Young people in the program have access to classes, workshops, and mentorship from Evergreen students, staff, and faculty.
“This long-standing partnership has been instrumental in fostering growth, empowerment, and community building,” said Therese Saliba, a professor at Evergreen State College. "Together, we have built a foundation of collaborative learning that continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of all participants.”
