One such event will be held in Spokane Nov. 16 to commemorate adoptive families
OLYMPIA – The Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) will join the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) in commemorating the state’s adoptive families in a National Adoption Day celebration in Spokane Nov. 16. The event will include live actors, face painting, craft tables and special visits from Spokane Chiefs hockey players, among many other activities. All are welcome to join the celebration. Many of these events will held at courthouses across the state and will celebrate the coming together of new families through adoption. Members of the public are welcome to attend all these events.
DCYF has more than 9,200 children in its custody. Of those, nearly 2,000 are legally free to be adopted. While many of these children will go on to find loving,
stable and permanent homes, dozens of youth age out of the foster care system each year without finding adoptive families.
