The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) launched a new webpage that highlights podcasts, videos, and other things that are created by or in partnership with young people in juvenile rehabilitation (JR).
The webpage includes links to music videos, interviews, and screenplays created by young people. Most of these products are created in partnership with programs such as the Bridge Music Project.
“I’ve never spoken up and this gave me a chance to use my voice. It also shows the people close to me that I’m rehabilitating,” said one young man that worked on the award-winning music video Dark Road. “I’ve always wanted to be a voice to advocate for incarcerated youth. I want people to know they have a voice.”
Youth voice is an important tool in rehabilitation. Young people in JR participate in several programs focused on sharing their talents, ideas, and thoughts.
