Erik Applebee

Dr. Erik Applebee joins DCYF on June 1, 2020 as the Regional Administrator of Child Welfare Field Operations in Region 4. 

Dr. Applebee started his child welfare career with Children’s Administration in 2003 as a CPS investigator serving the Office of African American Children’s Services (OAACS) now named the Martin Luther King Jr. Office. Erik served CA for 12 years as an Area Administrator, Supervisor, and Social Worker before transitioning to the University of Washington’s Alliance for Child Welfare Excellence. For almost six years at the UW, Erik has been an Associate Director for Learning and Development as well as Learner Experience and Innovations. This work sought to partner with DCYF to improve the valuable trainings for case workers, supervisors, tribal partners and caregivers.

Dr. Applebee has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of Washington, as well as a Master of Arts degree and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology from Argosy University. While pursuing graduate degrees, Dr. Applebee served community mental health programs in King County as an Intern Psychologist and Trauma Therapist at Sound Mental Health for almost six years.

Erik was born and raised in Southern California and has lived in King County for almost 25 years. When not working, Erik enjoys camping and fishing and spending time with family. Erik serves as a volunteer board member for Redmond West Little League coordinating baseball for kids 4-8 years old, and has coached 10 softball and baseball teams for his children.
